Alberto makes the most of the little land he has, growing citrus banana, corn, avocado, beans and coffee all intercropped.  The citrus and avocado tress offer wonderful low maintenance shade for the coffee while the banana trees are great for fast growing shade and provide plenty of organic material for the soil.  While Alberto waits for his new plantings of the Arabica varietal, Caturri to mature for picking he plants a few rows of corn to keep the land producing for him.  After picking his corn, Alberto will grow black beans up the old stalks, replenishing nitrogen in the soil. 

Alberto is a fantastic cheerleader for the cooperative in the community and has gotten his son Juan who has a plot of his own land involved as well.
